Here are some of the most exciting things happening during Homecoming.

Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award for Courage in Journalism
The Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award, established in 1952, is awarded to journalists who continue the Lovejoy heritage of fearlessness and commitment to freedom of the press. The American Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich, who is currently jailed in Russia, will receive the 2023 Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award for Courage in Journalism on Oct. 20.
C Club Awards
The 120th Colby C Club program will feature the presentation of two annual awards that support the important role of athletics in the Colby experience: the C Club Person of the Year will be presented to K. Matthew Hancock ’90, and the Carl E. Nelson Sports Achievement Award will be presented to Jennifer Lally Kent ’90.
Mules In Action
Cheer on Colby’s men’s and women’s sports teams in action all weekend long. Football, volleyball, and men’s and women’s soccer teams will take on the competition. Check the schedule for times, locations, and opponents.

Visitors will also find a half-dozen hotels, two hospitals, a multiplex movie theater, and nationally recognized businesses—Starbucks, Home Depot, and others—within city limits.
The health and safety of our community and all Homecoming Weekend attendees is a top priority. All attendees must follow CDC, state, and College policies and guidance regarding Covid-19. If you test positive for Covid-19 and are within the five-day isolation window, you should not attend Homecoming Weekend.
We encourage all attendees (with the exception of those who are unable to do so) to be fully vaccinated and boosted, though it is not required. We are not testing attendees onsite or requiring proof of a negative Covid-19 test. Thus, each attendee should consider their personal health situation in deciding to attend Homecoming Weekend, including attendance at particular events and activities.
Please contact staff in the Office of Communications and Engagement at 207-859-4311 or [email protected].

Lovejoy Convocation
The Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award of Colby, established in 1952, honors a member of the newspaper profession who continues the Lovejoy heritage of fearlessness and freedom. The recipient may be an editor, reporter, or publisher who, in the opinion of the judges, has contributed to the nation’s journalistic achievement. The selection committee makes its decision using criteria including integrity, craftsmanship, character, intelligence, and courage. The purpose of the award is threefold: to honor and preserve the memory of Elijah Parish Lovejoy; to stimulate and honor the kind of achievement embodied in Lovejoy’s own courageous actions; and to promote a sense of mutual responsibility and cooperation between a journalistic world devoted to freedom of the press and a liberal arts college devoted to academic freedom. The 2023 Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award for Courage in Journalism will be presented to Evan Gershkovich, an American Wall Street Journal correspondent currently detained in Russia.
