The Alumni Council is pleased to announce the nomination of distinguished alumna Deanna Perez ’22 to serve on the Colby Board of Trustees.
Deanna Perez ’22 has served as the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement at Rice University in Houston, Texas since 2023. She earned her Colby degree in educational studies with a professional certification minor in English at the secondary level. As a student, Perez was deeply involved in campus life, working as a part-time Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Rural Vitality Lab and serving as Chair of Communications for Students Organized for Black and Latinx Unity. She also served as a First-Generation Low-Income Student Mentor and participated in Colby Cares about Kids, Student Government Association Class Council, Colby Dancers, and the Colby Outing Club.
Perez continued her education at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), earning her MEd in Education Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship with a concentration in Higher Education. While at HGSE, she was an Admissions Student Ambassador, a member of Comunidad Latinx, an Alumni of Color Conference Volunteer, and an active participant in the Harvard Powerlifting Team and the HGSE Intramural Volleyball Team.
In October 2024, Perez was appointed as the HGSE Alumni Regional Chair of Houston after serving on its alumni committee for a year and a half. In this role, she works closely with HGSE’s Admissions and Alumni Engagement Offices to identify partnerships, advise on recruitment strategies, and foster a strong alumni network in greater Houston. Additionally, Perez is a Graduate School and Fellowship Support Volunteer for the Posse Foundation, where she previously served on the Alumni Council from 2022 to 2024.
Perez was selected from a competitive pool of candidates after an extensive search process. Other nominations may be made by submitting a petition featuring the signatures of one percent of the members of the Alumni Association to the executive secretary of the Alumni Council at [email protected]. If no petitions are received within 15 days of this announcement, the Alumni Council chair will declare the above nominee to be elected.
