Every year during reunion, Colby College honors the exceptional service and contributions of several members of its community. The 2025 recipients were celebrated during Reunion Weekend, June 6-8, 2025.
The Alumni Awards celebration is one of the highlights of the weekend. It brings together generations of Mules to recognize the achievements, service, and leadership of outstanding classmates. This year’s recipients embody the values and spirit of the Colby community, and we are proud to share their stories.
2025 Alumni Award Recipients
Charles W. Bassett Faculty Award
First presented in June 1997, this award recognizes a faculty member whose service to alumni programs, through active participation in regional and on-campus events, is extraordinary.
Dr. Margaret McFadden
Dr. Margaret McFadden has been a beloved presence on Mayflower Hill for over 29 years, as a teacher, scholar, mentor, and, most recently, as Colby’s provost and dean of faculty. A champion of inclusive excellence, she has led transformative academic initiatives and served on numerous committees central to the College’s mission.
Blue Key Award
Established in 2013, the Blue Key Award recognizes up to four young alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years. This award is presented to young alumni who have distinguished themselves by providing consistent and dedicated service to Colby.
Maria C. Bowe ’15
A steadfast supporter of the College, Maria C. Bowe ’15 has remained closely connected to Colby since graduating with a degree in art history. Her career began at an auction house in New York and has since evolved into a role at a tech startup, where she supports content creators and builds community, work that reflects her creative spirit and entrepreneurial energy. Bowe now resides in Portland, Oregon, with her husband, Ian, and continues to embody the values and vibrancy of the Colby alumni network.
Jack Hartigan ’15
A leader in global operations, Jack Hartigan ’15 brings a dynamic and strategic mindset to everything he does, including his ongoing connection to the College. Founder of the global ecommerce agency Goodwit Commerce, his professional path has spanned continents, and he remains deeply engaged with the Colby community. He recently joined the 1813 Society Committee, demonstrating his commitment to supporting Colby’s mission. A government major and proud Men’s Golf team member and Colby Improv during his time on Mayflower Hill, Hartigan continues to lead with creativity and collaboration.
Brick Award
Awarded to three to five recipients who are members of the Colby family, not necessarily alumni, who have demonstrated outstanding loyalty to the College through consistent and dedicated service on its behalf.
Cici Bevin Gordon ’85
Cici Bevin Gordon ’85 has generously given her time and talents to Colby for decades. She served two consecutive terms on the Alumni Council from 2016 to 2022, and has also contributed her leadership to the C Club committee and the Rugby board. As a class fundraising chair for many years and a multiple-term class president, Gordon has played a pivotal role in engaging her peers and supporting the College across generations. Professionally, she has led teams in marketing, nonprofit operations, and now as president of her sixth-generation family business, Bevin Bells.
Janet L. Hansen ’75
Since returning to Maine in the early 1990s, Janet L. Hansen ’75 has remained an active and generous member of the Colby community. Alongside her husband, Bruce Drouin ’74, she helped establish a fund at the Colby Museum of Art to support the acquisition of works by Maine artists, enriching Colby’s collections and the broader cultural landscape. In retirement, Hansen serves on various nonprofit boards, including the Yarmouth Town Planning Board and the National Architectural Accreditation Board.
David D. Turnbull ’75
David D. Turnbull ’75 is a loyal and enthusiastic Colby supporter whose connection to the College has spanned generations. A graduate in administrative science, he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He built a successful energy, mining, and trading career, living and working across the U.S. and Canada. He met his wife, Susan, at Colby during their first year, and together they raised three children, all proud Colby alumni.
Susan Benson Turnbull ’75
A member of the Class of 1975, Susan Benson Turnbull ’75 launched her career in service to Colby as director of student activities shortly after graduating. Over the years, she has combined family life, journalism, and entrepreneurship to found Personal Legacy Advisors, which helps individuals pass on personal values and life stories alongside financial assets. She and her husband, David Turnbull ’75, are the proud parents of three Colby graduates, extending their family’s strong bond with the College.
Marc A. Winiecki ’90
Marc Winiecki ’90 has been a proud ambassador for Colby since his student days, when he led the senior class fundraising campaign. A longtime supporter of the College, Winiecki has continued to give back through volunteerism, philanthropy, and joyful camaraderie, singing alongside fellow Colby 8 alumni at reunion dinners for more than two decades. He frequently mentors students navigating college and life choices, inspiring the next generation to pursue their passions.
Ernest C. Marriner Distinguished Service Award
This award recognizes a member of the Colby family (not necessarily an alumnus/a) for exceptional commitment to Colby, demonstrated by lifelong dedication to the support of the College and its goals. The recipient should clearly stand out from others in his or her devoted service to the College.
Jennifer M. Millard ’90
Jennifer M. Millard ’90 is a devoted trustee, a leading DavisConnects volunteer, and a member of the Halloran Lab Advisory Board. A former Alumni Council member, class gift chair, and reunion planner, Millard has supported Colby through decades of volunteer leadership and generosity, including a recent five-year Colby Fund pledge. Professionally, she is CEO and co-founder of Mainelove, a sustainable canned water company drawing from Sebago Lake, and has held senior roles at Manatt, Mastercard, and multiple tech startups.
Edson V. Mitchell ’75 Distinguished Service Award
This award is presented to an alumnus or alumna within 25 years of graduation for extraordinary service to Colby as demonstrated by sustained dedication to and leadership in the support of the College and the achievement of its missions and goals.
Carreau Mueller Ryder ’05
Carreau Mueller Ryder ’05 has been an active and passionate leader since her student days, where she served as Student Programming Board president, Colby Outdoor Orientation Trips coordinator, senior gift volunteer, and more. She continues to give back generously, recently rejoining the Alumni Council and serving as vice chair of the Colby Fund Committee. A seasoned fundraiser in higher education at both Harvard and Dartmouth, Ryder brings vision, experience, and warmth to every role she takes on.
