« BackBicentennial Celebrations
This fall we began a yearlong commemoration of Colby’s 200th birthday. The celebration started with a launch in October on campus and in Waterville. It continues with a series of alumni events taking place throughout the year across the country and in London. Additionally, there’s a Bicentennial Distinguished Lecture Series and we’ll hold a big birthday celebration on campus February 27, 2013.
Already, almost 1,200 people have attended bicentennial events including:
• The kickoff celebration in which Lincoln biographer
Doris Kearns Goodwin ’64 talked about the crucial role Colby played in her career.
• The unveiling of a portrait of General Benjamin Butler Class of 1838 over Family Homecoming Weekend.
• Bicentennial tour stops in Denver and Chicago (

Colby’s bicentennial offers a number of great ways for alumni to get involved, starting with attending one of our regional events. Check out our
full list of alumni events to find a bicentennial event near you. You’ll also find other great ways to recognize Colby’s history on our
bicentennial website and in the newest Colby magazine online feature, “
In their Footsteps,” an exploration of Colby’s history in the words of Colby people.
